天黑以后 我們 五光十色

Monday is always... boring. Anyhow after somewhat filling dinner I was left unsatisfied -- my tummy was fed but my appetite was not, no thanks to Hailam Kopitiam.

So I did what I do best -- go online. I slowly browsed through few forums about the eateries in Klang Valley, focusing particularly on the areas near my residence. The forum led me to some food blogs, and one of the blog led me to this famed local blogger, xes, who happens to be a lawyer as well.

Since I had recently learned about the limitation of social media to salary-men and -women, it interested me to find out that xes actually practises Intellectual Property Law and also specialises in Social Media arena as well. It was thence I bumped into the little Red Book -- Your Human Rights and Power of Police by Malaysia Bar Council. Although the "book" does not tell you exactly what to do when you're stopped at a road block during this Ramadan (yea... no bribing... yea...), but it is good to know our rights to certain level, and to know that if the misfortune of arrest happens to you, you can call Legal Aid Centre (LAC) if you do not have a lawyer.

I was pretty happy about my findings (not so much about xes food review or his non-legal blogs haha) but further reading disappointed me when I found out that in 2009 Malaysia police had abused their power even against lawyers. Yes! Even your LAC lawyer can be arrested for helping you!!!!

Given Ajib's recent Two-Face performance, and the obvious police state of this nation in many occasions, I have to quote xes: "This is the right of every citizen of Malaysia. The right to have legal representation. If this very right is denied, we are moving towards a police state with no civil liberties. Think Zimbabwe and North Korea." Yes, no civil liberties is right on money.

I was watching older episodes of Star Wars the other day. When Luke asked Yoda if Dark Side is more powerful, Yoda said: "No, no... but it's faster, easier, more seductive". There are many professions -- judge, lawyer, police, army, politicians who are directly involved in the upkeep of law and order. Their turning to dark side may make them seem powerful, but they are not. They just have it (corrupted power) easy. The real power is in our hands.

May the force be with us. (yea, I'm geek but I am praying real hard too.)

p/s Just to remind my friends who blog to read this, in case you break the law unintentionally.
